Add a Second Story to a Firehouse

The members of the Glen Ellen Firefighters Association wish to augment their services to the community by reducing call response time and provide additional training opportunities for volunteers. Currently the Glen Ellen Fire Department’s station house is a single-story structure. We have designed a second-story expansion of the facilities. (See floor plan and section view drawings.)

In order to see this vision become reality, there is the funding component, and this has largely come from donations within the community in which we serve. In order to justify the expense of the second story addition and administrative expansion, a seismic upgrade will take priority in order to assure the fire station will function in a substantial seismic event.

Create a Virtual Walk-through

This video illustrates the preliminary design to create sleeper quarters on this new second floor of the existing single story fire station in Glen Ellen, CA. Offering sleeper quarters will allow for volunteers to participate more frequently and longer with training activities without the due stress of housing difficulties.
